July 2000 newsletterFor anyone who may have missed the most significant recent event in the history of the world's best-loved Dictionary, the OED was published online on 14 March, exciting a great deal of public and media interest. The online text contains the complete Second Edition, the three OED Additions volumes published in the 1990s, and the first section of revised text to see the light of day. This issue of the OED Newsletter coincides with the publication of the second instalment of revised material to be published online – mai-mamzer. John Simpson, Chief Editor, previews some fascinating finds in this instalment of revised material, while Mark Dunn, of the OED Publication Group, describes the highlights of the March launch. Also in this issue Alan Hughes pays tribute to George Chowdharay-Best, one of the OED's longest-serving library researchers, who sadly passed away in April. This newsletter is available to download |
